Andrew Gibson earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University in 1952. A fellow of the American institute of Chemical Engineers, Gibson has since received numerous awards for his contributions to the field of engineering during his 45 year career. Most notably in his professional career Gibson served as President to Gibson Technologies, the Georgia based chemical engineering firm. Prior to Gibson Technologies he was employed as process-improvement manager at Georgia-Pacific, one of the world's leading manufacturers and marketers of tissue, packaging, paper, pulp, and building products and related chemicals.

In August 2002 Gibson was awarded the Monroe J. Rathbone Chemical Engineering Alumni Award from Lehigh University in recognition of "over 45 years of major contributions in the field of Chemical Engineering deriving from his work in operations management, process design, and international licensing for Union Carbide, Olin Chemicals, Georgia-Pacific Corporation, and John Brown Engineers, Ltd. His previous awards include the EPA Clean Air Excellence Award in 2002, which Gibson Technologies shared with the Lehigh University Department of Chemical Engineering and Georgia-Pacific; NSPE-Atlanta Engineer-of-the-Year in Industry in 1996; the Kirkpatrick Award for Best Technology in 1982; and the Award for Best Plant Design - Australia in 1971.
