Overview

In addition to the engine testing facilities, the thermodynamics and heat transfer testing equipment includes:

  • Boiler system with a complete Rankine cycle power generation system
  • Instrumented four-ton heat pump system
  • Well instrumented gas turbine jet engine
  • Heat transfer experiment.

The heat transfer experiment can examine forced convection past tube arrays with the flexibility of testing several tube configurations. The boiler system includes a turbine and electrical generator. The HVAC unit allows students to examine vapor compression air-conditioning and heating. The jet engine facility is good for demonstrating the Brayton cycle and can be tested with a variety of fuels.
