Planning to take or use a course from another college for credit at Lehigh?

If you plan to take a course at another college for credit at Lehigh, you must receive approval before you register to guarantee transfer. Not all courses are transferable, and approval depends on Lehigh policy, CSE department requirements, course content, rigor, assessment structure, and documentation quality.

Prepare

First, review the official transfer credit policy on the Registrar's website. Then, for each course, gather the following materials:

  • Completed Undergraduate Student Approval of Transfer Credit form
  • A full, detailed course syllabus that includes:
    • Instructor or program contact information
    • Course description
    • Learning outcomes
    • Textbook and required materials
    • Total meeting hours and course duration
    • Comprehensive list of topics covered
    • Grading breakdown, including exams, projects, assignments, and other assessments
    • Assessment format, including whether exams are proctored or in person
    • Lecture format and schedule, including whether the course includes regular, interactive lectures taught by the instructor
  • Website link showing the official course description and prerequisites

Simple course descriptions, catalog blurbs, or short outlines are not sufficient. We generally do not approve self-study courses, including courses based primarily on pre-recorded videos, books, or independent exam preparation without regular instructor-led interaction.

Before You Submit

Please confirm that your request appears to meet the following basic requirements:

  • You are within the CSE transfer-credit limits
  • The course does not violate repeat or retake rules
  • The institution or program is eligible for review
  • The course has sufficient duration, structure, and documented rigor
  • The syllabus includes learning outcomes and a clear grading breakdown

Process

  • Send your compiled documents to Beth Yen, CSE Undergraduate Advisor and Coordinator, at bsy296@lehigh.edu
  • Beth will verify that the required materials are complete and that the request appears eligible for review
  • If the request is complete, it will be forwarded to the appropriate faculty reviewer
  • The faculty reviewer will evaluate the proposed course for content alignment, learning outcomes, rigor, technical depth, and assessment structure
  • Beth will contact you with the department's decision

A course may be approved as a direct equivalent to a Lehigh CSE course, approved as CSE elective credit, or denied. Incomplete requests or requests that do not meet policy requirements may be delayed or returned without faculty review.
