Dr. Voloshin is involved in the modeling of cell motility and study of the effects of the underlying surfaces. He seeks to develop MEMS based systems for evaluation of cell's mechanical properties, as well as to get a better understanding of the effects of dynamic loading on human musculoskeletal system. Dr. Voloshin investigates thermomechanical deformations in micro- and opto-electronic packages using more interferometry.
He is recipient of a M. Hetenyi and Brewer Awards from the SEM Honors Committee, recognizing his contributions as a practicing stress analyst. Voloshin was elected as an Academic Advisor by the Presidents of the International Academy of Science in Russia for his "significant scientific achievements in the solution of the engineering problems of mechanics," He has served as visiting professor at Pontificia Universidade Catolica de Minas Gerais in Brazil, at Aoyama Gakuin University in Japan, Technion in Israel, Ljubljana University and Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines, St. Etienne, France. He is also recipient of a Certificate of Recognition from NASA for the creative development of a technical innovation. Voloshin is a member of SEM, ASB, and ABCM.
Prior to joining the Lehigh faculty, Voloshin served on the faculty at Iowa State University and as a senior research officer at the Institute of Non-Destructive Testing in Russia. He also served as technical consultant to several companies and holds U.S. patent for a "Passenger Monitoring Vehicle Safety Seat and Monitoring Device."
