"I started down my own path of volunteerism with SASE because the organization's mission helped me become successful in my career journey," says Lehigh mechanical engineering alumnus Dustin Nguyen '18 in the pages of the 2024 SASE magazine, the annual journal of the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers. "I felt it was only fitting that I pay it forward for the next generation in the SASE community."
Dustin, now a general engineer at Pepco Holdings, a division of energy giant Exelon, has been named by SASE as its 2024 Role Model. He also serves as chapter president of his company's Asian American Resource Group and recently received a 2024 Volunteer Award from the firm as well. In his support for SASE, he has also served as manager of its National Convention Attendance Committee and chair of its National Convention. He also sits on the SASE Board of Directors, where he serves as a mentor for college students and helps drive the direction of the organization.
"I remember when I first went to the Exelon booth at my first SASE National Convention in 2016 and didn’t receive an interview opportunity. Rather than give up, I turned to SASE, which provided me the community and development opportunities that prepared me for another interview with Exelon three years later. That evolved into a full-time job offer, and I still happily work at Exelon. Volunteering with SASE is a way to give back and make an impact wherever I go."
Dustin's full interview appears in the 2024 SASE magazine.
