U.S. News and World Report published its Best Graduate Schools 2019 guidebook Tuesday, ranking the nation's colleges and universities offering doctoral degree programs.

Lehigh University's Rossin College of Engineering ranked 61st out of 199 schools participating in the survey. Under Best Online Graduate Engineering Programs, Rossin College ranked 46th out of 93 schools.

Of the engineering specialty areas included in the rankings for doctoral programs, Rossin College ranked in the top sixth for industrial/manufacturing/systems (#17) and civil (#23) engineering, the top third for materials (#37) and mechanical (#48) engineering and the top two-fifths for chemical (#47), computer (#55) and electrical (#69) engineering.

Ranking for the engineering graduate schools is based on a weighted combination of a variety of factors, including peer assessment, acceptance rate, and student-faculty ratio. Ranking for individual departments are based on peer assessments by department heads within each specialty. Department heads in a specialty rate other schools offering a doctoral degree in that same specialty on a five-point scale. Only those schools with an average peer assessment score of equal to or greater than 2.0 are ranked.
