Civil engineering alum is veteran in field surveying, photogrammetry, and geospatial mapping

Geospatial expert and civil engineering alum Allen Wainger ’75 has been named director of program management for AXIS GeoSpatial. Wainger brings more than 40 years of experience in the geospatial industry to the role, including expertise in field surveying, photogrammetry, and mapping.

According to a press release, Wainger has a proven track record of successfully leading integrated geospatial solutions and will be responsible for “leading and directing cross functional teams to deliver projects within the constraints of client schedule, budget, and scope.”

AXIS, which is based in Easton, Maryland, is a national geocapture firm that employs remote-sensing and measurement technologies to capture geospatial data. These technologies have applications in civil engineering, land surveying, and GIS.

“The addition of Al to our executive management team is one that I welcome with great enthusiasm,” says company president Justin Lahman. “His professionalism, knowledge, and extensive geospatial experience will play an integral role in AXIS’ continued evolution of positioning strategy; predominantly in the areas of cost, quality, and flexibility.”

Prior to this role, Wainger worked at Michael Baker International where he was directly responsible for growing a GIT services and information systems department in the federal and state sectors.

Wainger has a B.S. (Lehigh) and M.S. (University of Maryland College Park) in civil engineering. He is also a registered Professional Engineer with technical specialty in water resources and environmental engineering. Wainger is an active member of the Maryland State Geospatial Information Committee, having served as treasurer and leader of the UAS working group.
