The purpose of the computer engineering technical minor is to enable students to supplement their major with knowledge and skills that increase their ability to realize their multi-disciplinary goals and/or make them more marketable.
Lehigh’s Computer Engineering alumni stand out by bridging the gap between software and hardware, designing and developing the foundational technologies that power our digital world. Unlike software engineers who focus primarily on code, or electrical engineers who specialize in circuitry, computer engineers uniquely possess a deep understanding of both. They are the masterminds behind everything from the intricate architecture of microprocessors and computer systems to the programming of embedded systems found in everyday devices like smartphones and smart home appliances. This dual expertise allows them to optimize performance by designing hardware specifically for certain software, and vice versa, solving complex problems at a systemic level. Their work is essential for innovation in fields like robotics, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, making them crucial for creating the next generation of technological breakthroughs.
