About the Speaker

Kirsten Bell is a Senior Research Specialist at the Dow Chemical Company within the Performance Monomers R&D group located in Collegeville, PA. She obtained a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, with a Minor in Business, from Lehigh University in 2018. During her time there, she participated in various activities, notably serving as the Captain of the University Dance Team. Subsequently, she pursued further education and earned a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University in 2023, where she explored her interests in materials under the guidance of Professor Christian W. Pester. Her research concentrated on the design and optimization of heterogeneous photocatalysts utilized in light-mediated reactions, resulting in authorship of 7 technical reports. In particular, she developed a platform of tunable, organic photocatalysts immobilized on micron-scale silica particles, capable of functioning in diverse environments. At Dow, Kirsten's work centers on the development and optimization of process technology. This includes leading a continuous pilot scale process operation, manufacturer plant optimization and support, and Aspen model validation.
