Civil & Environmental Engineering

When it comes to research, CEE’s undergraduate students hit the ground running. They’ll certainly encounter research in their class lab experiences. Students may also participate in laboratory research with a faculty member, working with graduate students and sometimes their peers, and are encouraged to seek independent research opportunities.

Students may undertake a research project as an elective with the proper approvals. Options available include:

Integrated Learning Experience (ILE) Program

This program encourages innovation and initiative while teaching teamwork, leadership and communication skills. Students are encouraged to work on projects with their peers from other disciplines, including architecture, computer science, economics, industrial engineering, marketing, materials science and mechanical engineering.

Research Experience for Undergraduates

This NSF-sponsored program takes place at our ATLSS Engineering Research Center over the summer.

Engineers Without Borders (EWB)

Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is an international non-profit organization with a flourishing chapter at Lehigh and in the greater Lehigh Valley. This association empowers budding engineers by facilitating humanitarian efforts around the world. EWB gives students the unique opportunity to apply their knowledge and gain hands-on experience in the field, while providing necessary services to people in need.

Lehigh Steel Bridge Team

This CEE student team competes in a regional competition sponsored by ASCE-AISC. Students are required students design a steel bridge based on a set of requirements that includes fundraising, fabrication and construct the final project. Students get the chance to design the bridge using computer software and to cut, grind, drill, and weld steel in the fabrication process.

David and Lorraine Freed Undergraduate Research Symposium

Each year, undergraduate students throughout the Rossin College of Engineering get the chance to display their research projects and practice their presentation skills by taking part an undergraduate research symposium.
