Jonas Baltrusaitis, an associate professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at Lehigh University and the inaugural editor-in-chief of Sustainability Science and Technology, will moderate a live webinar exploring per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 11 a.m. EST (4 p.m. GMT).

The event, Sustainability Spotlight: PFAS Unveiled, is sponsored by the IOP Publishing journal and will feature a panel of experts discussing the classification, environmental pathways, mitigation strategies, and cutting-edge biotechnologies related to PFAS, commonly referred to as “forever chemicals.” Baltrusaitis brings expertise in materials innovation, renewable energy-assisted catalysis, and waste-to-resource transformation to the discussion.

Panelists include:

  • Linda S. Lee (Purdue University): Researches PFAS challenges in chemical fate and contaminant remediation

  • Clinton Williams (USDA-ARS): Focuses on environmental and human health impacts of biologically active contaminants, including PFAS, in wastewater.

  • Sara Lupton (USDA-ARS): Investigates PFAS accumulation and remediation in food animals

  • Jude Maul (USDA-ARS): Specializes in agroecosystem research and soil health management
