The Philadelphia section of the STLE is pleased to award a $500 Scholarship to Pedro Oliveira a chemical engineering major with a minor in biotechnology at Lehigh University. Oliveira completed his junior year and will be graduating in 2023.
As a first-generation college student, Olivera found his passion for math and science to be a perfect match for the chemical engineering discipline. Dr. Angela Brown, his research advisor, describes Oliveira as a prepared, engaged, and highly intelligent student who excelled in his course work.
Despite all work being done remotely, Oliveira successfully took part in a team research program to study the potential use of extracellular vesicles as vehicles for drug delivery. Following up on his interest in biotechnology, Oliveira spent the summer of 2022 working at Sanofi in developing vaccine technology.
In addition to his course and research work, Oliveira served as sophomore representative to the local chapter of AIChE and is active in the local Biomedical Engineering Society chapter. He also serves as a peer mentor in the Lehigh Mentor Collective, actively aiding other Lehigh students in finding success.
