Svetlana Tatic-Lucic, Chandler Weaver Chair and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Lehigh University, recently traveled to the Southern Methodist University (SMU) Lyle School of Engineering as a featured speaker for their ECE Department Vision Series. Her seminar, titled “The Winding Road Through Industry, Academia, and Funding Agencies: Reflections and Insights,” offered a deep dive into a distinguished career that has spanned pivotal roles in the private sector, higher education, and federal funding leadership at the National Science Foundation (NSF).
During her visit, Tatic-Lucic presented her cutting-edge research in Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS), specifically highlighting applications in neuroscience and cell biology. Beyond the technical, she engaged in a candid dialogue with SMU faculty and students regarding the evolving landscape of engineering. Her reflections on navigating career pivots and the importance of departmental resilience sparked meaningful discussions on how institutions like Lehigh and SMU can better prepare the next generation of engineers to lead with both technical depth and integrity.
The SMU community noted that Tatic-Lucic’s visit was characterized by her "candor and humility," reinforcing Lehigh ECE’s commitment to mentorship and cross-institutional collaboration. These interactions highlight the department's ongoing influence in shaping the national conversation around engineering education and research competitiveness.
