A special virtual edition of the journal Chemistry of Materials pays tribute to Elsa Reichmanis, Lehigh’s Carl Robert Anderson Chair in Chemical Engineering, and her accomplishments as a prolific researcher and devoted mentor.

The issue, published online in December 2023, is a collection of articles highlighting wide-ranging scientific advances connected to Rechmanis’ work as well as the personal impact she has made on members of the scientific community throughout her career.

In an editorial by the issue’s guest editors, Reichmanis is described as having made “tremendous scientific contributions in the design and development of polymer and organic-based materials, fundamental understanding of processes for electronics, photonics, and energy, and pioneering data science approaches for organic materials discovery and development.” She is also credited with serving as “an inspiring and vocal leader to ensure a more inclusive scientific community.”

The editorial also highlights Rechmanis’ long-time service to the journal. Since 1995, she has held various roles with Chemistry of Materials, including advisory board member, associate, editor, and executive editor, while striving to “make materials chemistry and science a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all researchers.”

“I am thankful for the incredible team and contributors who make every achievement possible, as well as for every guest editor who made this special recognition come to be, ” says Reichmanis. “I am excited to continue fostering knowledge in our community.”
