ESE director Rudy Shankar sheds light on Distributed Energy Resources

In an essay recently published in Energy Central's special issue on “Distributed Energy Resources: What’s New?”, Rudy Shankar, director of Lehigh's Energy Systems Engineering (ESE) program, and colleagues explain Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), distributed energy resources (DERs), and how Lehigh has played a role in this technology.

"Distributed Energy Resources promise lower costs, more electric supply stability, and local resiliency for controlling electric supply. Achieving this technological breakthrough requires successful integration of DER technology into the existing power grid, both from the supply and demand sides," they wrote.
