Dr. Jianxing Sun is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Mechanics. Before joining Lehigh University in July 2025, he was previously a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering and the Biointerfaces Institute at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis in 2022.

Dr. Sun’s research experimentally investigates the thermo-fluid and interfacial physics of phase changes in multiphase energy systems and manufacturing. Building on these fundamental insights, he leverages functional materials and device design to enhance system efficiency and enable innovative manufacturing.

Dr. Sun teaches the undergraduate Thermodynamics Lab (ME 207) in Fall 2025 and is actively recruiting motivated students at all levels, including Ph.D., master’s, undergraduate students, and visiting researchers.
