Chemical and biomolecular engineering alumnus Daniel Roxbury ’07 ’12 PhD recently reported results from the development of a new approach to noninvasive monitoring of infections using a “smart bandage.”
As an assistant professor of chemical engineering at the University of Rhode Island, Roxbury is developing a strategy to deploy infinitesimal nanotubes within live cells as a way to gather important molecular information.
One manifestation of this research is his most recent work, reported in the journal Advanced Functional Materials, where Roxbury along with his graduate students report the use of nanosensors embedded in the fibers of a bandage to provide a continuous, noninvasive detection of an infection in a wound.
More details about this research can be found on the URI Today website.
Roxbury received his BS (2007) and PhD (2012) in ChBE at Lehigh working under the joint supervision of professors Anand Jagota and Jeetain Mittal.
He is a 2019 recipient of the NSF CAREER award.
