ISE Lehigh Alumni Academy

(ISE Academy)

ISE Lehigh has a fantastic network of alumni. ISE alumni are generous, willing to give back, extremely well trained, and highly qualified. Many have become true leaders and mentors in their industry sectors. Lehigh’s Development and Alumni Relations Services engage our former students in multiple activities. They have always participated in our capstone and leadership courses. It is, however, time to think comprehensively and make a better use of the great resource that is our alumni network.

The ISE Academy aims at increasing ISE alumni engagement in undergraduate and graduate student education along the following initiatives:

  1. Participating in courses. ISE alumni participate in currently offered courses, sharing with students and faculty their practical experiences. These individual lectures are the genesis for further engagement and activities.
  1. Student advising and mentoring. ISE alumni meet with students on a regular basis to advise them about internship opportunities, industry challenges, and the societal and ethical implications of their profession. Sophomore fall and and junior fall semesters are critical as students are thinking about their internships at that time. The same happens during the senior spring semester when students are looking for jobs. Alumni may become industry mentors and provide shadow opportunities. All sophomore, junior, and senior students are given the opportunity to have an industry adviser. Alumni play a critical role talking to freshman who are considering majoring in ISE.
  1. Lecturing courses. A significant number of our alumni are highly knowledgeable in their fields and many have been engaging in professional training for decades. In addition, many of them have been willing to engage in a college teaching opportunity; they feel the drive for it. Some live close by and are willing to come to campus to teach. In addition, online teaching offers a unique opportunity to have other alumni, wherever they are, lecturing at ISE Lehigh. This is an opportunity to revive catalog courses not currently offered or simply start new courses in emerging topics.
