Recognitions, publications, and press from across the Rossin College
Himanshu Jain, Diamond Distinguished Chair and Professor, Materials Science and Engineering; Director, International Materials Institute for New Functionality in Glass; Director, Institute for Functional Materials & Devices (I-FMD)
Jain has received the George W. Morey Award, presented by the Glass and Optical Materials Division of the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) and sponsored by Guardian Glass, LLC. The award recognizes new and original work in the field of glass science and technology. The criterion for winning the award is excellence in publication of work, either experimental or theoretical, done by an individual.
Javier Buceta, Associate Professor, Bioengineering and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
Buceta has been awarded a Faculty Innovation Grant (FIG) of $30,000 for his proposal entitled “Scutoids as a New Paradigm of Cellular Organization in Tissues: Biomechanics and Topology.” The goal of Lehigh's FIG awards is to launch new research projects that can continue well beyond the period of the grant, taking existing research in promising new directions, or otherwise expand sustainable research programs beyond their current scope.
Rick Blum, Robert W. Wieseman Professor, Electrical Engineering
Blum gave a plenary talk at the IEEE Workshop on Cybersecurity of Power Electronic Systems (CyberPELS), held April 29 to May 1, 2019, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Blum, who is a sought-after speaker on cybersecurity topics, has a number of upcoming talks on "Cyber Security for Internet of Things Systems." He will present IEEE Signal Processing Society Distinguished Lectures in May 2019 in Toronto, Canada; Chendu, China; Shenzen, China; Wuhan, China; and Shanghai, China; and at Purdue University in June 2019. He will give plenary talks at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Center for Advanced Signal and Image Sciences (CASIS) workshop (May 2019) and IEEE COMCAS in Tel-Aviv, Israel (November 2019). Siddha Pimputkar, Assistant Professor, Materials Science and Engineering
Pimputkar has authored a chapter on gallium nitride in Single Crystals of Electronic Materials (Roberto Fornari, editor) published in September 2018. According to Woodhead Publishing, the book is "a complete overview of the state-of-the-art growth of bulk semiconductors. It is not only a valuable update on the body of information on crystal growth of well-established electronic materials, such as silicon, III-V, II-VI and IV-VI semiconductors, but also includes chapters on novel semiconductors, such as wide bandgap oxides like ZnO, Ga2, O3, In2, O3, Al2, O3, nitrides (AIN and GaN), and diamond."
