Meet Milan Boga, a Lehigh University bioengineering student specializing in biopharmaceutical engineering, who is combining biology and chemistry to pave the way for real-world therapeutic breakthroughs.
Milan, who joins the Lehigh community from Danville, California, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering. His deep interest in the biochemical complexities of the human body inspired him to focus on the Biopharmaceutical Engineering concentration, where engineering principles directly contribute to the next generation of therapeutics and medicines. Following graduation, Milan plans to pursue a graduate degree specializing in cancer biology to develop innovative cancer treatments.
Finding the Perfect Balance at Lehigh University
Selecting the right university is a critical choice for aspiring engineers. For Milan, Lehigh offered an exceptional mid-sized campus feel paired with the powerful academic and research resources of a leading engineering institution.
"I really appreciate Lehigh's emphasis on preparing its students for their careers after graduation, whether that be through a great education or a well-connected alumni base," Milan reflects.
Campus Leadership: BMES and Rossin Junior Fellows
On campus, Milan actively shapes the engineering community. He is a member of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES), which fosters collaboration, career development, and camaraderie among bioengineering undergraduates.
Additionally, as a Rossin Junior Fellow (RJF), Milan takes on a vital peer-leadership role. Through this selective student-leadership group, he mentors incoming students, helping them navigate the challenges of the engineering curriculum and discover their own passions in bioengineering.
A Collaborative Spirit in Lehigh BioE
Some of Milan’s favorite undergraduate memories are built on the close-knit, supportive environment within the department. He recalls a memorable late-night thermodynamics study session with his peers that naturally transformed into a relaxed pizza party.
"Having a close community with fellow BioE classmates can make even the most difficult classes enjoyable," he notes.
Fun Facts & Mentorship Advice
Although currently living in California, Milan was born in Houston, Texas, and remains a dedicated fan of the Houston Texans and Rockets.
When asked what advice he has for prospective or current engineering students, Milan emphasizes keeping an adaptable mindset: "Keep an open mind. A class you think you won't enjoy, or don't expect to excel in, might end up being your favorite!"
