High school students participating in Lehigh's Summer Engineering Institute get a in-person look at heat treatment technologies

High school students attending Lehigh's Summer Engineering Institute (SEI) recently toured the Souderton, PA, campus of Solar Atmospheres, a commercial heat treating company.

"The students experienced a manufacturing setting encompassing related topics from their curriculum, gaining a better understanding of heat treating and manufacturing, and how cutting edge technology reshapes centuries-old processes," according to a press release

SEI is a two-week residential program, run twice each summer under the direction of Dr. Laura Moyer, that provides rising high school juniors and seniors—often from backgrounds underrepresented in STEM fields—a lab-based, research-centric learning opportunity to explore future paths in science and technology.

Solar Atmospheres has previously partnered with SEI to offer participants an up-close look at heat treatment processes and gain a greater understanding of the impact manufacturing has on society.
