Bio:

Dr. Yong Mao is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Rutgers University, Piscataway, New Jersey. She earned her Ph.D. in molecular biology from Rutgers University and subsequently joined Dr. Jean Schwarzbauer’s lab as a postdoc fellow at Princeton University. Dr. Mao's pioneering research has focused on understanding how a decellularized 3D fibrillar matrix regulates cellular functions and id

Abstract:

Following her postdoctoral training, Dr. Mao embarked on her professional research career at LifeCell Corporation, focusing on the company's core technology centered around a decellularized tissue matrix. Motivated by a passion for advancing innovative technologies, Dr. Mao joined Rutgers University as a faculty member. In this capacity, she has been committed to developing bioactive scaffolds designed to support wound healing and tissue engineering. With a distinctive research background spanning both industry and academia, Dr. Mao has established numerous collaborations with industry partners and has developed an encompassing platform at Rutgers to advance translational research in regenerative medicine.

In this presentation, Dr. Mao will showcase her recent work, highlighting the application of ECM in delivering cells and bioactive molecules for wound healing, as well as in constructing tissues for cultivated meat.

This event is free and open to the public. Please reach out to the Department of Bioengineering's graduate coordinator, Rebekah Short (rjs323@lehigh.edu) with any questions or comments.
