The Department of Mechanical Engineering & Mechanics is pleased to welcome incoming Assistant Professor Aditya Aiyer.
Dr. Aiyer’s research interests lie at the intersection of fluid mechanics, turbulence, and renewable energy. His lab will be developing computational tools and physics-based models to better understand complex environmental systems. These simulation approaches have broad applications including renewable energy and human health.
Aiyer joins a thriving interdisciplinary energy research community at Lehigh that includes the Atlantic Marine Energy Center, offshore wind energy harvesting, the Energy Research Center, and fusion research.
MEM Department Chair Arindam Banerjee describes Aiyer’s research plans as a perfect complement to the ongoing work of other faculty in the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science. “Dr. Aiyer brings his expertise in high fidelity (large eddy) simulations at the air-sea interface and its effects on Renewable Energy. He will be a valuable asset to several research teams at Lehigh’s Institute for Cyber Physical Infrastructure and Energy and in MEM. In addition, Aditya plans to teach courses in computational fluid dynamics and related topics that would add to our graduate and undergraduate curriculum.”
Before joining Lehigh, Aditya Aiyer was a postdoctoral research associate in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University. He received his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and master's degree in Physics from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science - Pilani (Goa, India). Aiyer earned a second MS followed by his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 2020.
