PBS39 News Tonight reporter Chloe Nouvelle interviews Rick Blum, the Robert W. Wieseman Endowed Professor in Electrical Engineering and the director of the Signal Processing and Communication Research Laboratory, about the importance of designing cyber physical systems, like power grids, with multiple layers of security and the ability to detect anomalies that could signal malicious activities. Ph.D. student Jake Perazzone discusses his research on securing military drone command systems through authentication technologies.
Dr. Blum is a Fellow of the IEEE, an IEEE Third Millennium Medal winner, a member of Eta Kappa Nu and Sigma Xi, and holds several patents. He was awarded an ONR Young Investigator Award in 1997 and an NSF Research Initiation Award in 1992. His research interests include signal processing for smart grid, sensor networking, communications, radar and sensor processing.
