Unique partnership with HYP Global designed for international students

Overview

Lehigh University's P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science has partnered with HYP Global to launch Pre-Master's Boot Camp (PMBC), a strategic partnership for international students who wish to pursue a master's degree in engineering at Lehigh.

PMBC, offering 100 hours of customized instruction, is designed to help streamline admission into the selected Master's program for international students identifiied as top candidates by HYP. Students in the program engage in training, coursework, and academic support in preparation for the challenge of graduate-level education in the rigorous field of engineering.

Participating engineering degree programs at Lehigh include the following:

Courses

PMBC is a cohort based three-month (10-12 week) online accelerated program with Spring (February to May) and Fall (September to November) intakes each year. Students will take 3 foundation courses and participate in 3 to 5 live class sessions every week during their time in PMBC. Classes are scheduled on weeknights and over the weekends, PMBC students with other responsibilities like school activities or work can be granted excused absences from live classes in the case of time conflicts, but they are expected to make up for the missed classes by watching recorded sessions on their own. Student support and learning management systems are put in place to foster student autonomy. Program coordinator, assistant and instructors will show students how to track and manage their own learning progress through 1 on 1 advising and actionable feedback.

The foundation courses will help students in academic development and prepare them for success in their future graduate studies in engineering. Each student will take two common courses and a third course that is specific to their eventual master's program:

  1. Engineering Mathematics
  2. Technical Communications
  3. Algorithms and Data Structures (For students entering Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, and Data Science) OR Fluid Mchanics, Electromagnetism, and Thermodynamics (For students entering other programs)

Application deadlines

  • Spring Intake: January 15th
  • Fall Intake: September 10th

*Application deadlines subject to change

Student profile

PMBC students come from diverse academic and professional backgrounds:

  • Individuals who seek to strengthen their academic preparation for rigorous graduate programs at Lehigh.
  • Individuals who wish to pursue a different academic discipline from their undergraduate background.
  • Working professionals who wish to readjust to formal learning and change their career path.

Lehigh and China: The Untold Story

Even though the partnership between the Rossin College and HYP Global is new, the ties between Lehigh and China date back to the earliest days of our proud institution. The photo above shows a gathering of the first Chinese Students Club of Lehigh University, founded in 1909. Lehigh President Harry S. Drinker, seated, was named an honorary member. READ MORE >>
