William E. Schiesser, emeritus professor at Lehigh University, recently authored several books on computer-based solutions to model real-life phenomena, such as the development of Parkinson’s disease.
Schiesser is the Emeritus McCann Professor in the chemical and biomolecular engineering department as well as a former professor in the mathematics department.
His recent books include the following four titles:
- A Mathematical Modeling Approach to Infectious Diseases (2019)
- ODE/PDE Models for Parkinson's Disease (Feb. 2018)
- Numerical Integration of Space Fractional Partial Differential Equations co-authored with Younes Salehi, Razi University (Nov. 2017)
- Methods of Line Analysis of Turing Models (Aug. 2017)
The books feature numerical algorithms with computer implementation for the solution of ordinary differential, differential algebraic and partial differential equations (ODE/DAE/PDEs), with an emphasis on biomedical science and engineering applications.
A distinguishing feature of his books are the availability of tested, documented computer routines available for free download. Schiesser's ODE/DAE/PDE computer routines have been accessed by over 5,000 organizations, including colleges and universities, corporations and government agencies.
Schiesser holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University and an honorary Sc.D. from the University of Mons, Belgium. He is the author or co-author of numerous books in his field of research on numerical methods and associated software for ordinary, differential-algebraic
and partial differential equations (ODE/DAE/PDEs) and the development of mathematical models based on ODE/DAE/PDEs.
