Lehigh has announced the creation of two new University Research Centers (URCs), with a number of Rossin College faculty members playing key leadership roles.
The Center for Community-Driven Assistive Technologies (CDAT) will develop breakthrough assistive solutions that empower individuals with disabilities, while the Center for Advancing Community Electrification Solutions (ACES) aims to revolutionize local energy systems through sustainable electrification strategies. These interdisciplinary centers, supported by strategic partnerships and expert faculty, are poised to address critical societal challenges and pave the way for enhanced quality of life and resilient communities.
Vinod Namboodiri, Forlenza Chair of Health Innovation and Technology in Lehigh's College of Health and a professor of computer science and engineering in the Rossin College, brings his engineering expertise to drive innovative assistive technology solutions.
ACES is led by Shalinee Kishore, Iacocca Chair and professor of electrical and computer engineering, alongside Arindam Banerjee, Paul B. Reinhold Professor and department chair of mechanical engineering and mechanics, who together will steer transformative research in community electrification.
This announcement follows the launch of Lehigh's inaugural URC, the Center for Catastrophe Modeling and Resilience in 2024, and all three support the goal outlined in the Lehigh Strategy to establish multiple centers of prominence over time.
