Life sciences data and informatics expert Dave John '97 '00 has joined iSpecimen as vice president of product management.
John, who holds bachelor's degrees in chemistry and chemical engineering from Lehigh, brings nearly two decades of experience in business development, product management, and executive leadership to the challenge of helping researchers procure human biospecimens for their work. Specimens encompass both inherent biological data (including genetics) as well as clinical information about the patients who provided them (including demographics, treatments and outcomes). Both data types help streamline discovery of increasingly specific specimens for specialized research.
"Specimen and patient data are fundamental to the biospecimen procurement process, much as product data enables the shopping experience on a consumer marketplace," says iSpecimen Founder and CEO Christopher Ianelli, MD, PhD. "Dave's experience with life sciences data, as well as his strong background bringing Software-as-a-Service products to market, will directly inform the capabilities delivered in the next generation of the iSpecimen Marketplace technology."
John has extensive experience defining, designing, developing, and launching data science and informatics solutions for genomics, translational medicine, clinical trials, real-world evidence (RWE), and electronics health records (EHR/EMR).
Prior to joining iSpecimen, John served as vice president of analytics, RWE, & market access for Decision Resources Group. At DRG, he executed the business strategy for using international data sets for decisions about health care coverage and access. He previously held senior product management positions at PerkinElmer and ConvergeHEALTH by Deloitte.
"I've devoted my career to developing new products that improve health care," says John. "iSpecimen exemplifies this purpose, and I look forward to helping streamline the sharing of biospecimens and the data that describes them to expedite important research."
John also holds an MBA in finance at Northeastern University.
