Zhao ’95 PhD named dean of UConn’s College of Engineering

Materials science and engineering alum Ji-Cheng ‘JC’ Zhao ’95 PhD has been named dean of UConn's College of Engineering, effective August 12, 2024, according to a news release.

Zhao is currently the department chair of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) and Clark Distinguished Chair Professor of the University of Maryland, College Park.

Willoughby ’89 elected to National Academy of Engineering

Electrical engineering alum Scott Willoughby '89 has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) in recognition of “engineering leadership enabling the deployment of the James Webb Space Telescope,” according to a press release

Willoughby is Vice President of Program Excellence serving Northrop Grumman's Space Systems sector and former Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems Program Manager for the James Webb Space Telescope Program. 

Seebergh '89 elected to National Academy of Engineering

Chemical engineering alum Jill Seebergh '89 has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) in recognition of her “contributions to materials and coating processes that enable efficient and sustainable aircraft production, performance, and safety,” according to a press release

Seebergh is Principal Senior Technical Fellow for Boeing Research & Technology, having reached the highest level of Boeing’s technical workforce over her more than 25-year career with the company. 

Musterman '21G '23 PhD continues glass crystallization research as NSLS-II postdoc

Materials science and engineering alum Evan Musterman '21G '23 PhD recently became a postdoctoral researcher at the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II), a Department of Energy Office of Science user facility within Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York. His journey from Lehigh PhD student to postdoc at the Submicron Resolution X-ray Spectroscopy (SRX) beamline is the subject of a feature story, "Imparting Glass with New Properties," published by Brookhaven.
