Lehigh University's Technical Entrepreneurship (TE) Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) program immerses graduate students into both sides of the innovation process—technical product development and entrepreneurial venture creation. It is a practical and academic blend that is as unique as it is powerful. Students from all backgrounds and experience levels learn the tools and mindset of interdisciplinary collaboration and iterative problem-solving. TE students learn the technical aspects of innovation from ideation/design sprints, intellectual property, and prototyping to integrated product development, beta testing, and design-for-manufacturing. They also build fluency in the principles and tools of venture, including stakeholder engagement, business modeling, and cash flow, as well as leading diverse teams, strategizing for finance/scale, and presenting across platforms.

Technical Entrepreneurship program format

The M.Eng. program comprises both a practical and academic blend of technical development and venture creation. It includes a sequence of project courses for students to create and iterate their own product and venture while pursuing a cohesive set of courses in skill building, integrated product development, venture launch and scale, and beyond. 24/7 access to a dedicated classroom/lab space, a collaboratoin zone, and mock-up station, supports student growth. A hallmark of the program is the impressive portfolio of industry-embedded faculty, with backgrounds ranging from engineering to medicin, and law, who bring cutting-edge skills in the distinct areas of product and venture.

Technical Entrepreneurship collaborations

TE M.Eng. students interact with myriad partners across the innovation ecosystem, including locally with the Research Translation Accelerator/Office of Technology Transfer, Baker Institute for Entrepreneurship, Creativity, and Innovation, Lehigh West, and Office of Creative inquiry. This innovation ecosystem extends beyond Lehigh to include the Southside Bethlehem Keystone Innovation Zone, Ben Franklin Technology Partners, Philadelphia Angel Venture Fair, Transatlantic Ruhr Fellows program, Mandela Washington Fellows, and DLAB Dortmund.

Technical Entrepreneurship external funding

Partial merit-based and tuition scholarships are available.

Master's in Technical Entrepreneurship admissions requirements

  • A candidate's personal statement detailing their motivation for graduate study and research interests.
  • The candidate's resume summarizing background relevant to graduate study.
  • Complete transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Unofficial copies may be uploaded initially, but official transcripts are required upon accepting an offer of admission.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from qualified individuals.
  • For international students whose first language is not English who have not studied in the US or countries where English is an official and widely spoken language, TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, or Cambridge English Qualification test scores are required.
  • A non-refundable application fee of $50.
  • GRE test scores are not required.
