ENGINEERING RESILIENCE
Welcome to the Spring 2025 issue of Resolve—a magazine dedicated to research and educational innovation in the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science at Lehigh University.
As you will read in this issue, the Rossin College's research enterprise is indeed thriving, both in established areas of strength, such as infrastructure, and in emerging directions, including marine energy. That momentum is further reflected in Lehigh’s recent achievement of R1 status in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, the premier level of classification that signifies high research expenditures and graduation of doctoral students.

The Next Wave
The ocean holds vast, untapped potential: Engineers see it as a resource to store carbon and help mitigate climate change, an avenue to address food and fresh water insecurity, and a source of sustainable materials and life-saving medicines. At Lehigh, researchers are immersed in efforts to harness its waves, tides, and currents to drive innovation in renewable energy.
Unlimited potential
Driven by a passion for discovery, these Lehigh Engineering faculty members are pushing the frontiers of gene editing, robotics, AI-driven design, and medical diagnostics. Their work and national recognition affirms not only their individual achievements but also the strength of Lehigh’s research ecosystem—one that nurtures big ideas and empowers faculty to make a lasting impact.
A path for shared discovery
Experiential learning is fundamental to Lehigh Engineering’s mission—and a new addition to the Rossin College’s catalog of hands-on opportunities puts a fresh twist on undergraduate research.
