Overview: As Lehigh prepares to host the 2024 Lehigh University Summer Engineering Institute (SEI), a key to the program’s success is the Student Mentor Staff. Student Mentors must participate in the program with our SEI students. This leadership opportunity is certain to be challenging yet exciting as Lehigh prepares to welcome some of the brightest high school students to our program for a unique summer experience.

Paid Benefits

Your total compensation for your very valuable contributions to Lehigh University and the Summer Engineering Institute will be a $3,200 compensation plus room and meals during the in-person part of the program. You will be paid on a semi-monthly basis, and have an average of 2 days off per week.

Qualifications

Student mentors must have a solid academic record at any accredited university. Because of the intense nature of the schedule, student mentors will not be able to take classes or work elsewhere during the time of the program.  FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and Criminal Record check (required in the state of Pennsylvania to work with minors) are required and must be completed prior to the start of employment. If you bring a car to campus, you are responsible for buying your own summer parking pass as you are not required to have a car for the program. 

SEI Mentor Responsibilities:

  • Attend classes, seminars, and online tours with the SEI students (schedule will be available during mentor training).
  • Serve as a role model and mentor at all times adhering to all Lehigh University and SEI policies as written in the SEI staff handbook.
  • Work to the schedule provided during training.
  • Advise a mentor group and assist the group with different team projects. Projects have real deliverables.
  • Work as a team with other SEI Mentors, sharing duties throughout the program.
  • Develop one social activity that support the goals of the program. 
  • Handle different administrative and program tasks under the direction of the Operations Directors and the Program Director.
  • Participate in orientation for SEI Mentor staff 
  • All other duties as assigned per the direction of the Dean of the College of Engineering.
