Environmental biotech expert to deliver 2021 Distinguished Water Lecture

National Academy of Engineering member Bruce E. Rittmann, who is Regents' Professor of Environmental Engineering at Arizona State University, will deliver the 2021 Distinguished Water Lecture at Lehigh University.

Rittmann directs ASU's Biodesign Swette Center for Environmental Biotechnology and conducts research on the science and engineering needed to “manage microbial communities to provide services to society.”

AI to pave the way to increased waste-to-energy production

A team, led by Lehigh University, will develop technology based on AI combined with state-of-the-art spectroscopy, to analyze municipal solid waste in-situ and in real-time, a cost- and time-effective approach that could pave the way to increased waste-to-bioenergy production

Studying thermophoresis in space

A multidisciplinary team of Lehigh engineering researchers has been awarded an NSF/CASIS grant to develop experiments examining particle behavior in complex fluids—without the constraints of gravity. The work, which will use the resources of the ISS National Lab, could lead to advances in the detection of viruses like COVID-19.
