ISE Lehigh announces MOPTA 2021 Conference

The 21st annual Modeling and Optimization: Theory and Applications (MOPTA 2021) conference will be held at Lehigh University, August 2-4, 2021.

The MOPTA conference brings together researchers from a broad range of optimization areas, working on theoretical or applied aspects, or both. There will be invited plenary talks from distinguished speakers, as well as organized sessions and contributed talks, spread over three days. Our confirmed plenary speakers are:

In Memoriam: Jerzy A. Owczarek, MechE professor emeritus

Accomplished teacher, researcher authored textbooks on fluid mechanics and gas dynamics; discovered important phenomenon of reflecting pressure pulses between turbomachinery blades

Jerzy A. Owczarek, 94, professor emeritus of mechanical engineering and mechanics, passed away January 11, 2021, after a battle with Parkinson’s disease. He had recently celebrated 61 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Elisa Mercedes (Basoli) Owczarek, who survives him.

Lehigh announces partnership with Indian Institute of Technology Bombay

Lehigh has established a new partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) that will facilitate academic and student exchanges, as Lehigh continues its efforts to expand international opportunities for faculty and students. 

Lehigh Provost Nathan Urban, senior vice president for academic affairs, and Professor Subhasis Chaudhuri, director of IIT Bombay, signed the Memorandum of Understanding and Student and Scholars Exchange Program Agreement on Thursday, Dec. 17, in a virtual gathering of leaders from the two institutions.
