When Hurricane Sandy hit New York City on Oct. 29, 2012, it left in its wake a nearly worst-case scenario. Though the storm was downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone just before it made landfall, Sandy’s impact was disastrous.

CHBE alumnus Dr. Animangsu Ghatak (PhD, 2003) elected to the Indian National Academy of Engineering

Dr. Animangsu Ghatak, a graduate from the department (PhD, 2003, with Professor Manoj Chaudhury) has been elected to the Indian National Academy of Engineering as a Fellow. The Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) comprises India’s most distinguished engineers, engineer-scientists and technologists covering the entire spectrum of engineering disciplines, and functions as an apex body to promote and advance the practice of engineering and technology and the related sciences and disciplines in India. The total number of members (fellows) of the Academy is limited to 1,000.

CHBE alumnus Dr. Chris Jewell wins two AIChE division awards at the recent AIChE Annual Meeting

Dr. Chris Jewell (BS, CHE, class of 2003, double major in molecular biology and Chemical Engineering) won two major awards at the recently concluded 2018 AIChE Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA. The AIChE Nanoscale Science & Engineering Forum (NSEF) selected Jewell for the 2018 Young Investigator Award, while the AIChE Materials Engineering and Sciences Division (MESD) awarded Jewell the Owens Corning Early Career Award.

Mizuho hires Josh Weismer ’94 as head of US equity capital markets

Josh Weismer ’94 has joined Mizuho Americas as Managing Director and Head of US Equity Capital Markets. Weismer is based in New York and reports to Andrew Dewing, Head of Banking.

“Capital markets activity among our specialty areas of TMT, healthcare, energy, utilities, industrials and consumer is growing quickly for us,” said Dewing. “Josh brings the experience, knowledge, and relationships to create funding solutions for companies looking to leverage opportunities in the markets.”
